Piano Sano is an independent French production company founded in 2015.
We develop and produce films and series, both live-action and animation, with a clear ambition: to bring forward bold, meaningful works rooted in contemporary stories, combining a distinct voice with a genuine connection to audiences.
Our editorial approach has been shaped project by project. We work on both original creations and adaptations, in France and internationally, with established talents as well as emerging voices.
We support projects end-to-end, from development through production to distribution. This continuity allows us to build strong, coherent works, in close collaboration with our partners, studios and broadcasters, with particular attention to how each project finds its place within today’s landscape.
WHO WE ARE
A decade
of stories
rooted
in reality
Founded in 2015 by Idris and Moussa Lettifi, Piano Sano was born from a simple conviction: to produce stories rooted in reality, driven by singular perspectives, and capable of resonating far beyond their immediate context.
Initially conceived as a lean independent company, the company has steadily grown around a bold editorial vision — one grounded in strong writing, complex characters, and clearly defined worlds. This vision has expanded across formats — short films, feature films, and animation — with constant attention paid to balancing artistic ambition with the practical realities of production.
Over the years, Piano Sano has established a presence on the international festival circuit. Films such as Na Marei, shortlisted for the 2025 César Awards, and Shadows, screened at the Venice Film Festival in 2024 and the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2025, reflect both this trajectory and the company’s commitment to distinctive works with a strong identity.
This growth has gone hand in hand with an increasing commitment to international co-production. Several projects have been developed and produced with foreign partners, including shoots in Georgia, Turkey, and the Philippines, as well as international co-productions such as Sam by Erika Del Mundo — a French-Norwegian-Philippine feature currently in production and supported by the CNC’s Aide aux Cinémas du Monde fund.
In an industry undergoing profound change — with longer financing cycles, fragmented markets, and shifting audience habits — Piano Sano has chosen a path of measured growth, guided by agility, responsibility, and carefully calibrated risk-taking.
Recent years have marked a turning point, with animation becoming a structural pillar of the company. Projects such as Bras cassé (Lagardère Animation Grant), currently in post-production, and the series Sam & Watson — adapted from the book collection published by Glénat — embody this momentum, developed in collaboration with several studios and both public and private partners.
At the same time, Piano Sano is expanding into serialized formats, conceived from the outset with international co-production and distribution in mind.
Today, the company is developing a slate that bridges cinema and series, live-action and animation, with a particular focus on building lasting IPs — distinctive works designed to travel internationally.
